A Fleet Built for Daily Port-to-Depot Cycling

A container drayage operator in Indonesia running routes between a port terminal and an inland depot came to SIGMA for a batch of container chassis trailers built for that pace of work — units that cycle through load and unload several times a shift rather than sit idle between long-haul runs. Each unit went out with its model code, HD-305 or HD-306, spray-marked on the frame for the customer's own fleet tracking.

Why a Skeletal Frame Beats a Flatbed for This Route

For pure container drayage, the open skeleton frame strips out the deck weight a standard flatbed trailer carries, which matters when payload is capped by container tare plus cargo weight rather than by axle rating. Every kilogram saved in tare weight is a kilogram of billable cargo the operator can carry instead, and on a route run daily that difference adds up fast.

Twist-Lock Fit and Axle Spec for the Route

The 3-axle build carries a 34-ton payload on ISO 1161-spaced twist-lock housings, so the chassis takes 20ft and 40ft boxes without adaptor plates. Locking pins rotate from ground level, cutting the time a driver spends walking the chassis length before pulling out of the yard — a small saving per cycle that compounds over a fleet running multiple turns a day.

Batch Production and Loadout

The finished units were staged three at a time in the plant yard before loadout, nested together to keep the shipping footprint down for the export leg to Indonesia. Blue paint and the spray-marked model codes let the customer match each chassis to its build record on arrival, before the fleet even puts the first one into service.

On the Road at the Terminal

For a fleet working congested port approaches and inland depots, a chassis that turns around fast at the crane and doesn't add dead weight to every trip is worth more than one with extra features it will never use on a fixed drayage route.
